Armchair BEA 2013 – Introduction

posted by Donna

As this is Book Wookie’s inaugural year, I’ve decided to jump right in and participate in Armchair BEA 2013. If you’re wondering what Armchair BEA is, just click on the link to learn more.

OK, so I’m a wee bit late with my intro. I suppose that’s the first thing you should know about me – if I don’t write important stuff down, it tends to get lost in the shuffle.

So, let’s kick-off Armchair BEA off at Book Wookie by answering the following five questions:

  1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

Donna PeplinskieMy name is Donna. I’m a thirty-something married mother of none. I work for a digital signage company building front-end software. In my off-hours, I can usually be found reading or working on the Book Wookie blog. I also enjoy taking on home improvement projects and then not finishing them until months later. (Show of hands. Who else does this?!?)

Book Wookie has only been live since last December. I had done a bit of dabbling in blogging before that time – first a cross-stitch blog and then a web development one – but they slowly fizzled out because it felt like too much work. I decided to take a stab at book blogging after meeting Book Nerd at a bookish event. I visited her blog and thought, ‘Hey, I can do that too!’ So I built this blog and the rest is history.

  2. Have you previously participated in Armchair BEA? What brought you back for another year? If you have not previously participated, what drew you to the event?

I am a newcomer to Armchair BEA. I wanted to give it a try so that I can meet some new people and get social. I know that it’s very important to make those connections so that I can engage in discussions about things I’m passionate about, namely – books!

  3. What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2013?

Well, that’s a bit of a loaded question! I try to have no more than two books on the go, one hard copy and one on my Kindle, but I’ve been a bit out of control lately. I’m currently reading:

The_KeeperThe Light Between Oceans Book CoverIf You Find Me Book CoverThe Body Reset Diet Book Cover

  4. Name your favorite blog(s) and explain why they are your favorite(s).

I mostly tend to follow my favorite author’s blogs including S. Walden, Tracey Garvis Graves and Tabitha Suzuma. I recently came across a book blog that I absolutely adore, mostly because she built it in WordPress and did a phenomenal job of designing it. Her posts are nicely laid out and well-written. That blog is Nose Graze. I often visit to look at how she has designed things and to get inspired when making changes to my own blog.

  5. Which is your favorite post that you have written that you want everyone to read?

I guess this is the part where I get to do a shameless plug?!? OK, this would have to be the post where I walk through the steps on how to become a Book Depository affiliate. This might be a good post for you to read if you want to make some money from your blog.

Well, that’s it for my intro. I hope to be seeing you all around the blogosphere this week!

About the Author

Donna is founder and manager of the Book Wookie blog. She’s also a Web Developer who specializes in front-end and WordPress development. When not at the gym or undertaking a new home improvement project, she can usually be found curled up with a glass of wine and a good book.
